3.19.2013  Mary Louise Hargett Hamilton has terminal gastric cancer.  It is a difficult sentence to write. As of today, Mom's bowels have stopped working and because she is no longer able to eat or drink, the doctors give her only days to be with us.  Rowland, Kim, Chris and Capri are all with her at the hospital and making plans to take her home to New Bern for in home Hospice care.  I will up date this blog as soon as new information is available.  If you subscribe to this blog below with your email, you will be notified when I post something new.

Mom has touched the lives of thousands, and the show of love and support has been overwhelming. The Hamilton family wishes to thank you all for your love, support and prayers. As much as Mom and Dad would love to talk to everyone on the phone, it's just not practical right now, so we thought a blog was a good way to keep loved ones informed of her journey back home to her Heavenly Father.  We encourage you all to respond to these posts with words of love and encouragement, especially if you have a favorite memory of Mom and how she has touched your life. In the short periods that she is awake, we can read your messages to her, so she knows just how many lives she has touched and just how much she is loved.  Please be sure and include your name in the body of the post so we know who it is from.

Thanks - Stacey

    Mosiah 24:14-15*

14 And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions.

15 And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.

  5. Thank you Stacey for putting this blog together. When I was married, Uncle Rowland and Aunt Mary Lou had just returned from Italy with Kim. She brought me two beautiful embroidered handkerchiefs from Italy to take with me to the temple. I still keep those handkerchiefs in my temple suitcase and think of her with so much love when I see them. This was one of many, many times she made me feel loved and treasured. I love you Aunt Mary Lou. I'm so glad I was able to visit with you at my parents house just a few weeks ago.

    Love, Kathy Rainwater

  6. Grandma – I love you so much and am thankful for the time in this life that we have had together. You taught me more life lessons than you probably know, and I’m blessed to have you as my Grandma. Some of my favorite memories as a child were spent with you and Grandpa at your ranch in Colorado. We spent multiple summers with you and learned how to heard and brand cattle, drive tractors, and how to garden. I also have such fond memories of the family Christmas we all spent together at the ranch.

Your relationship with Grandpa has always been an inspiration to me as well, and I aspire to maintain the kind of strength in my own marriage that you two have shown throughout yours.

I am a better person because you are my grandma. :)

    I love you!

    Scott

    2. Good morning, Rowland, Mary Lou, and family. We are planning to leave Drummond on the 6:10 ferry tomorrow morning. We have to make a short stop for my stepson to work on the car brakes. Hope to be back on the road around noon. If all goes well we should be in New Bern, Monday evening or Tuesday morning. We love you guys and will see you soon.

  9. Steve and Beth Hamilton ~ MaineMarch 20, 2013 at 7:10 AM

Good morning - this is Gene's son and wife (Steve and Beth) from Maine, sending the whole Hamilton Family much love and prayers for strength and comfort, and joy from wonderful years of memories.

We have a couple of letters that Grandma Hamilton wrote to Gene and Mary and I wanted to share her words as I believe they represent the foundation of this wonderful Hamilton Family and the love shared ...

"always love as you do today ... there are all kinds of ups and downs to overcome, but each does their part, helping the other and always showing kindness and love ... don't say unkind words ... be always thoughtful and most of all take God into your home with you - he will always help you ... I want you to be always as happy and in love with each other as you are right now ... my heart is with you and my prayers for a long and happy life together ... may all your future be as bright as this your wedding day, with joys and blessings deep and many - and with sorrows light and few ...

With a heart full of love and prayers for you"

With much love to all, Steve and Beth

  11. This is Terry.. Larrys step daughter. Aunt Wiggie was so welcoming to me and my family when Larry married mom. Her and rowland would come stay with us. We would get in the kitchen and cook and talk about everything. Especially the Lord and how good hes been. Through my divorce she was a great strength to me. I will always remember her gentlt grabbing my arm and juat patting my cheek ... not saying a word just smiling and kissing me on the cheek. Withour a word I knew she was telling me she loved me and was praying for me.

I love you Aunt Wiggie .. thank you for all your love.

Uncle Rowland I love you and praying for you and your entire family

  12. Grandma,

It breaks my heart to know what you are going through, I was so sad to hear that one of the sweetest and caring women I know can be going through something so sad. I just wanted you to know that I love you and will miss you so much while you are gone. We here at the Hamilton home are always praying for your comfort. It is times like these I am so happy to be a member of the church to know that we and grandpa still have an eternity together and that your son Keith is waiting for you with open arms so excited to see his mom again. we love you, I love you and we will all miss you. Thank you for all that you have done for our family and for the great memories I have as a child at your ranch. Wish I could be there to hug you.

    Love Kyle.

Hang in there grandpa, you have an eternity to spend with her.
